Dear members of the Korean Endocrine Society,
My name is Hyoung Woo Lee, and I will serve as the 30th chairperson of the Korean Endocrine Society. It is my highest honor to have the privilege of writing this message to the esteemed members of the Korean Endocrine Society to mark the beginning of the year 2020, the Year of the Mouse. I wish for happiness and renewed hope to fill the hearts of our members and their families in the new year.
Since its establishment in 1982, the Korean Endocrine Society has undergone phenomenal growth, both in terms of its size and prestige. Thanks to the commitment of the chairpersons before me, as well as tireless efforts and contributions of our distinguished members, the membership of our society has grown from 37 at its founding to 1,600 active members. Additionally, our society has developed into an academic association that publishes an internationally acclaimed professional academic journal, Endocrinology and Metabolism, which was launched in July 1986 and has recently been listed in MEDLINE and SCIE.
Our society has seen remarkable success in terms of a variety of achievements, as exemplified by the fact that we will host AOCE-SICEM, one of the most prestigious international endocrinology conferences, in the upcoming April. At this very moment, more than 1,600 professionals working in a variety of related fields—including the clinical practice of medicine and theoretical and clinical research, as well as 16 expert committees that are part our society—are striving to treat and research endocrine disorders, working towards formulating treatment guidelines, organizing training programs for private practitioners, reinforcing exchanges between local branches, and expanding and implementing more appropriate reimbursement and coverage standards in the healthcare system.
I would like to humbly ask you, our valued members, for your continued participation, commitment, and support for the Korean Endocrine Society, which will further improve its standing and influence as an international academic society through significant academic achievements in research on endocrine disorders (including epidemiological investigations, studies on early detection, basic research, and studies of treatment methods) utilizing interdisciplinary approaches. Such approaches will involve an increasing degree of intellectual exchange and syncretism with other academic disciplines, such as artificial intelligence, at the advent of the fourth industrial revolution. We will take steps to invigorate academic exchanges and collaborative research with domestic and international researchers in the field of endocrinology, and will strive to promote international cooperation with your wholehearted support. I promise that all of the executive officers and committee members, including myself, will make our best efforts to provide you with activities and opportunities that are commensurate with the advancing position and prestige of our society.
Once again, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the executive officers and board members who have granted me this opportunity to serve the Korean Endocrine Society and its distinguished members. Lastly, I wish you the best of your health and continued success in all your endeavors in the new year. Thank you.
Chairman
Hyoungwoo Lee
